The Straughn varsity baseball team officially dawned the 2012 season with two convincing victories over Greenville on Monday, February 20. The host Tigers picked up strong pitching performances and plated runs early and often to thump the visitors from Butler County by final scores of 10-2 and 11-2. With the double dip sweep, SHS begins the new campaign 2-0 while GHS falls to 0-2. Head coach John Fussell spoke about his team’s performance as a whole following the doubleheader. He said, “For the first game, I thought they played really well. I thought we pitched well, and we were able to throw our off-speed stuff even when we were behind in the count. We did a pretty good job of hitting the ball, but it is just the first doubleheader of the season.” A complete recap with more remarks from Coach Fussell and seniors Zack Turvin and Doug Mosley is after the break.
